I semi-rebuilt my son's T-5 in his S-10. The basic transmission has different tail shafts/shifter available I believe. The shifter location for the S-10 is mid-case. The similar transmission for, say a Camaro, has the shifter much farther back.
The shift mechanism is full of little nylon bushings and dainty shift forks. If you do a search, you can probably find a exploded view, and it might give you some leads.
I am far from Mr. AAMCO, but, to loose reverse with out any forewarning would indicate to me that the mechanism that engages it might have taken a dump.
