it'll make it last longer, the epoxy is "waterproof", but not entirely "weatherproof", the rust protection comes from having an unbroken impermeable surface, chips and scratches happen, especially during assembly, and ultraviolet eventually takes it's toll, even in what you consider 'hidden places'
