as you look at the photo notice a cable stop. this could be made longer. this holds the outer housing to the truck frame. since i installed a 77 4x4 rear end [12bolt] my cables were too long. same solution can be used, if ya got a lathe. as you view the photo see the spacer that looks like a 3/8x2'' sleeve. this could be made 3/8'' -7/16'' dia up to the truck pinch bolt. the lip is to help hold the rubber boot from slidding off. this sleeve is drilled thru for the cable. the end where the cable fit inside the sleeve about 5/16+/-'' to locate the outer housing and keep the dust out. i used the old rubber cable cover to add w/ dust inside the inner.

you can also lube [white spray lithium grease] the inner cable once a yr/ or 3 using a motorcycle cable lube applicator. place a rag at the brake shoe side as the grease will squirt thru. those should always work better and not rust out.
