Okay, here's what I know now: 4 speed with floor shift. He needs the shift lever and the "top cover" of the transmission that the shift lever goes in (and the connecting ball and pins from lever to top of the transmission). Apparently, someone just stole the shift lever by breaking it off. I hope i'm making sense.
Trans came out of an 87 chev 1 ton dually, but not sure original to that truck.
casting numbers: went to Ebay---465462 same on both; his--3901131 vs. Ebay 3901127.
plate on side has: 59000 E 67044;(not sure if maybe added by shop that rebuilt trans earlier);
His also has F217 on top below 3901131.
Working on photos. Is the pan the top of the trans? Thanks again.
