Your post got me thinking. My 65' 3/4ton had had a few backfires due to a worn out ignition switch. The backfires were comparable to a shotgun blast. So just now, I ran up to the garage to see if my indeed my muffler had also been damage. Alas, I found that the entire two foot section of my exhaust pipe - just past the muffler- has been blown completely off!
