Once the engine is at top dead center on the compression stroke and the distributor is fully seated into the oil pump drive, turn the distributor clockwise until the points close. Attach the primary wire from the coil (-) terminal to the connector on the side of the distributor. Turn the ignition switch to the "on" position. Using a test light with the alligator clip attached to a good ground, touch the point of the tester to the connector on the side of the distributor. As long as the points are closed, the light will not burn. Turn the distributor housing counterclockwise slowly until the light comes on. This indicates the points have just barely opened. Lock the distributor down at that position and the timing is set. Starting with the distributor cap tower where the rotor is pointing, wire the spark plug wires in a firing order of 1-5-3-6-2-4 in a clockwise direction. Fire up and go!
