Hello all..
Got a 1963 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 with a 327 in it and HEI.
I got one wire from the starters' solenoid, to a wire coming off the fire wall (just to the right of of the black heater box) That runs back to the ignition.
I got another wire from the BATT terminal on the HEI straight to the battery.
When I turned the key (never tried motor till now) it fired right up but it wouldn't turn off. Anyone got any ideas?
Also, when it started, the motor was running full blast, and it did that for at least 8 seconds before I could get to the battery and disconnect it. Do you think that messed anything up? WHy would it be full blast like that? I checked the carburetor and It looked like all was well. ie: it wasn't stuck in tons-of-gas-mode.
To make this more interesting, I noticed that some oil had shot out of what I thought must have been one of the holes on the valve cover without a hose attached to it. Does this mean I have blow by? Does it mean that since the engine ran full blast for those eight seconds that I screwed up the rings as a result?
