The 235 survived through 1962. The Chevy parts guy should know better. If it's a single long pushrod cover, then it's not one of the later motors - they all used two smaller covers. You've probably ot a 235, but check the casting number on the block to be sure. And if the head casting number ends in "848" or "850" then it's either a 235 or 261.
