Might want to add when when the shift from 15-bolt to 18-bolt heads was made. It is my understanding that all of the 1953 (even the 1953 stick with the splash and iron pistons) and later 235s have the 18-bolt heads and all earlier 235s and all 216s have 15-bolt heads. Another big change was the increase in cam bearing diameters in some of the 1953-54 and all 55 and later engines. I believe that the Corvette six and 261s were the first engines to have the larger diameter bearings.

Another confusing change (that I do not recall) is the oil pan and oil pump changes.
