there are various type of rear axle setups and he is referring to positraction which is a limited slip rear axle w/clutches in it. it is not a constant 2 wheel drive rear axle.it will engage in certain criteria( all he understands that if he stands on it in a straight line both tires will smoke.that is one of the criteria). you would not want to drive around with both wheels driving constantly as it is a pain turning with it.
you could check under the parts for sale here as someone may have a used one that you could rebuild and install (oiginal equip). you should ask a few of them that are in the bus. of selling parts.
you may be able to still by a new unit.
you should be able to buy a detroit locker for it and there are other makes out there
