Bolting up to your 228 isn't the hard part. The hard part is adapting to your torque tube.

Is something wrong with your 4-speed or is it okay but you have found it difficult to get along with? You might replace it with a better one, or with an original type 3-speed.

Patricks has a kit to adapt a Saginaw car type 4-speed to the torque tube, and that is probably the only non-stock option that does not require replacing the rear with an open type rear.
