If I hadn't already ordered the sleeve, I'd give your idea a try. Hopefully someone reading this later can learn they have other options than the local parts store on something like this.

I think that would be a pretty clever trick(the wire one-MM) if you got away with it , but you would be replacing the seal sooner than if you did nothing. you can always replace the yoke with a new one.
perhaps the one by amazon are from china, so they would be a good place to purchase it from.
a proper brg est would stk all sizes and you may get a better price there.
you wouldn't be very happy if your boss went shopping tomorrow for someobne to do your job cheaper
