I found a throttle cable/knob at a swap meet but the cable was too short. I cut it off and put the shaft/knob in a lathe and drilled a hole in the end. The local piano rebuilding shop miked my original wire and gave me a piece of piano wire the same diameter which I brazed onto the shaft/knob. Wire free, knob/shaft one dollar, brazing fifty cents. End results? Priceless! That was 10 years ago and it is still intact.
