The casting-date codes (block and head) are helpful. But, a combination of casting-date codes, block and head casting codes, and engine serial numbers are the best way to make an identification.
Does anyone know if 216 head and block codes are in the same locations as
these codes found on later 235 and 261 engines? If anyone is willing/able to send me photos of all the 216 codes, I be please to give them credit in a web-page that displays photos of all the 216 codes. A photo of both sides of the block would also be helpful - the oil distributor cover/plate on the manifold side of the block, in particular.
