I want to install a 396 Chevrolet in a Ford F750 truck. The 390 presently in the truck has very limited power and a 396 would be a huge improvement. There are 2 ways I can do this, use the transmision in the truck and find a bellhousing mating the 396 to the transmission or else going with a GM 4 speed I presently have. If I went this route I have enough parts to do it but would like to keep the 5 speed if possible.

What do you suggest? I do not know what brand of transmission is in the Ford, don't even know for sure if Chevrolet used this transmission in any of their trucks.

I suppose if a bellhousing was not available for the 396 to the 5 speed there would be a way to adapt a Chevrolet bellhousing to the 5 speed, but I doubt it would be easy or cheap.
