My vent window has a 37.5" long vertical channel as part of the assembly. The part supplier sent me some channel lining, 1.75" wide x ~38" long.
- Should I use weatherstrip adhesive to attach the liner to the channel?
- The liner seems to be about 0.1" too wide. Should I use some sort of "tool" (piece of wood ripped to the proper width) to put in the channel to force the liner against the channel walls when the liner adhesive is curing, assuming adhesive is the way to go?
- Should I set the liner flush on one side and then trim the other side flush, or is it best to set it even, and have it a little bit (~0.05") "proud" on both sides? A third option is to try to trim off the slight excess before attaching, but I'm not too confident of how straight I can trim it. I'm also not too comfortable trying to shave off such a narrow width- it is going to take a surgeon's scalpel to slice off that sliver!
I realize these are details, but I'm genuinely interested in hearing others' experiences. Maybe I can learn from your successes or failures.
