That condenser is there as a radio noise filter. Unless you're running an original-equipment AM radio, you'll never notice the difference if it's left off. If you want it there just for appearances, check it with an analog ohmmeter (the type with a needle, not digital). If it's working, the needle will rise, then quickly fall back toward an open-circuit reading. Ground the insulated lead to the condenser case before trying the test a second time.
