wow, i did it. i set it up on my mill and drilled it out also drilled out the holes for the other dowels. i found out something interesting- the single dowel hole on the old 7/16" mounting flywheel was 15/32". i didn't know there was 2 sizes!!! the 3 dowel holes on the newer 1/2" mounting flywheel was 7/16". i got to thinking rather than remove the 2 dowels and leave the flywheel alone, i should drill it out to make it more balanced. how can be assured the weight of the dowel removed will equil the weight of flywheel not drilled out. sounds confusing. i thought the dowels all equil out so if i drill the holes to accept them i will have the best chance of keeping it balanced. the holes in the newer 1/2" flywheel were actually 17/32" so when i drilled the old one i kept them to 1/2" plus a little. now i see why none of the machine shops i called wanted to do this. now i'm going to throw this on a tire balancer and balance it.
just kidding, don't want to stop anyones heart. they can do this at the machine shop. anyone know about the 2 dowel sizes? hr
