When I first attemped to do a valve adjustment on my 49 216, I had the tech tip printed and on the fender with me. I struggled to do it accurately and ended up with a truck that ran very poorly. After consultation here I did COLD adjustment to .010 and .020 where I could take my time and get the feel and position done correctly. This initial adjustment worked great and allowed the truck to run fine. I did get a hot adjustment done later, but very little changed from the cold adjustment.
