Your fuel sending unit should show 30 ohms resistance with the float in the full position and 0 ohms with it in the empty position using a multimeter. Connect the red lead to the wire lug and ground the black lead to the sending unit housing. Moving the float through the full range slowly should show a smooth reading change on the meter.
