It would be great if there was some way to mock up the exhaust system before you start. I'm reminded of how I ran lawn edging in a pretty curve around the lawn last summer. I first strung out the garden hose in the circuitous design mama wanted and then bent the edging to match. If there was something perhaps PVC pipe that could be adjusted to fit then copied in steel...
