Take a hard look at the 2 trans. & the length. Check with a local drive shaft shop. They can probably mate the one from the 4 speed to the back part of the 3 speed. Have you check out the 4 speed. Most of the GMC trucks used the NP trans. It can be identified by the aluminum top. The early ones back then were notorious for busted syncros.
