A CDL is reuired to drive any vehicle with a gross combination weight of 26,001 lbs. no mater what kind of brakes it has. If you are planning on driving it on the street, you will need a CDL and check with your insurance agent. I am in the trucking business and have several old heavy trucks. I can insure them through JC Taylor because I can prove that they are collectors items, not feasabable to use in my fleet. If you only have one big truck, most insurance companies will assume that you will use it as a truck.
