I've used 3/8" stainless steel fuel lines, It's tough to work with and you need a really good bender.
I've seen some aluminum fuel lines used, and I'm not sure I like the idea but there is probably nothing wrong with them. I would use plenty of rubber cushioned clips to keep it from flopping around and rubbing on stuff.

I have some more 3/8" fuel lines to make, I'll try some copper nickel lines this time, also called cupronickel and Cunifer.
Do a search on ebay UK, that's where I've seen the best prices even with shipping over here.
