The standard road draft tube was all metal with a metal draft-tube coming out the side and
directed towards the ground.It sounds like you have a PCV set-up that may or may-not be original (I think the factory PCV system was only available on a 261, I might be wrong). Are you able to post or email pictures (I'll post them for you, if you want)?
This is not a dumb question - but, a Shop Manual is a necessity. You might find that the
1962 manual is a supplement to an earlier manual (1960 plus two supplements). They show up on eBay and are available from reproduction parts vendors.
