If you sidemount the motor and use a bellhousing that mounts to the existing crossmember you don't need a transmission crossmember.

However, there is no stock bellhousing that will bolt to a 292 and the existing crossmember, so either you have to make custom mounts or replace the bellhousing crossmember with a '54 or '55 1st crossmember to support a V-8 or later six type bellhousing.

I think I'd order the Chevy Duty or someone else's crossmember...
