The problem as you probably already know, is that the radio for the 54/55 AD was specific for that one and a half year run truck. Even the non-functioning radios are expensive. I am looking at putting an overhead mount at the front of my 55 3/4 ton cab and putting a delete plate over the hole. You can get a really nice system for what they want for the reproductions.
