My speedo would bury itself when I first started driving my truck. It had been sitting for almost 8 years.
I thought it might have been the cable or the new transmission I put in with overdrive. What I found was the mechanism/speedo in the dash was gummed up. I took the instrumentation cluster out of the dash, took it a part and cleaned/oiled it. When it was back together and in the truck it all worked. Now my speedo works fine.
Are you sure this is not your problem?
