As long as you change it out annually, brake parts will last a very long time with Dot 3/4. Don't go too long. I changed out the brake fluid this month on my wife's 2004 Honda and it was already quite discolored after just 4 years. I'm not going to let it go that long again but I hadn't had to do a brake job on it yet.
