I would advise avoiding DOT 5. As mentioned, it is not compatible with DOT 3 flud, and there are also issues with compatability with the rubber components in a system meant for DOT 3. The silicone in DOT 5 can soften and even destroy the the rubber in the system. It's also not good if you get it on bare steel that will wequire painting. I have personal experience with it, seemed to be fine, until I noticed a puddle under the truck. At first, I thought "oil leak", buth when I checked, it was the master cylinder. Ended up replacing the rubber parts and swapping to DOT 3 (after consulting with the manufacturer), and have had no problems since. Leave DOT 5 to the Harleys and the British car guys.
