get a length of wire with a couple alligator clip on each end. Hook one end to the + side of the coil and the other end to the battery + post. You should also make sure that you have a negative cable from the battery - post to the engine block. This should be enough to see if its going to run. If it starts and you want to shut it off just take the alligator clip off the battery + post.
