on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 99 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 99 | Well I just found out why I was having so much trouble getting the starter to run reliably... I pulled the cover off of the end of the starter to find a pile of rust, bushings, and bushing springs fall out. I have no idea how water got trapped in there but the starter is in dire need of a rebuild or possibly a replacement. Is there any place that sells a rebuild kit for a 12v foot-stomp starter (in a 55 2nd series with a 235ci engine)? I am on a rather tight budget with the truck and I'd rather not spend $130 on a new starter or $50-70 for someone else to rebuild the starter when I could do it myself. Worst comes to worst I may just look around for a old starter out of the junkyard...
