The axle was no doubt added to haul whatever it carried. The bed that is on it, other than the wood top, is welded to the frame. There is a second 3 speed muncie transmission in it, also probably added. My great uncle who had it, (don't know if he is the orignial owner) used to haul grape boxes from his vineyard on it. Hope to one day get around to fixing her up...
