Another option would be to send the gauge and line to a gauge rebuilding service and have them attach a line with the appropriate length and proper connection. Try Hemmings or do a search here. I used Bob's speedometer service for my Diamond T and was very satisfied (the gauge now reads within 2 degrees of our kitchen thermometer---oops, don't ask my wife how I know that!!).
