PAINT isn't appropriate for a carb, and will gum things up when the gas starts dissolving it Rance, and the heat retention is important - carbs and manifolds work better if cooler - there are special coatings made for carb bodies, if you think you need the show truck look, or you could have it powder coated - the OEM look is a special thing like anodizing, and can usually be regained by cleaning it well, or using the stuff from Eastwood or similar, which is fairly impervious to gas and leaves the carb looking aluminum or the bronzy finish that some have
