A lot of folks here will tell you that your gauges will fry @ 12 volts but that's not my experience. When I converted my 55.1 panel to 12v years ago I didn't even think about the gauges. I just put a 12v coil, voltage regulator & 12v bulbs in it then put over 100K on it without problems. The gauges never had a problem & worked OK the whole time I owned it. Is that saying you'll never have a problem? Nope, but I never did.
