What year engine?
12v or 6v?
positive or negative ground (important for GMC)?
There are different models of Pertronix ignitions for 216/235/261 Chevrolet engines, depending on some of these factors. Maybe the geometry of the point cams are different?
I have a 6v in a 54 235 and a 12v in a 60 261, they both have a tight fit. No ballast resistor in the 60 261 (been using it for at least 8 years - different Tech Support people at Pertonix have given me conflicting stories about ballast resistors and types of coils).
