Hello. My 1951 3100 has been titled in Kansas all its life. The VIN on the title is and always has been the "engine serial number" (the number stamped on a boss behind the distributor). I assume most people consider the "vehicle serial number" (the number on a metallic plate on the door frame), to be the VIN.
So why would the State of Kansas, 57 years ago, use the engine serial number instead of the vehicle serial number on the title?
You Kansans out there, what number is on your title?
It's a problem now because my mom has signed the title over to me and I live in Oklahoma. I gave my insurance guy the vehicle serial number, so now the VIN on my title and the VIN on my insurance don't match, and I can't get a tag.
Even if I have my insurance guy change the number to the engine serial number, I'm concerned that, when the Oklahoma tag agent visually inspects my vehicle, they'll say, "That's not the VIN".
Any thoughts, especially you Kansans?
