Check the coil. I've had this happen 4 or 5 times.(I'm just lucky I guess) One time I blew up a muffler on my '62 Impala. Man, sounded like a shotgun went off underneath me! It was the coil. Coil dies. Fuel loads up & then combusts. Put on new coil & starts up no problem. Good luck.
