The rear end and tires should make a huge difference for mileage. Try just the rear end first. That double pumper is going to pump a lot of gas. Get the quadrajet rebuilt, it is a good carb for that motor. For ease of use I like an edelbrock 750 on that motor, but I'd use the Qjet.
