If you can't sell that big block and have enough money for a fantastic 350, I'd be surprised, I live about an hour from you, 350s readily available in Mobile and Pensacola from what I have seen. 327s are like gold though. 305s are dirt cheap and might make sense based on you rmoney situation, ducking...
How about making it easy and dropping in an olds small block where you have the big block? Olds 350 with a 200r4 should be a pretty simple task due to your motor mounts, etc. This would give you a smaller engine with an overdrive tranny, your could probably buy a good early eighties donor car for the sale price of your big block and BPO turbo 400
I like an Olds 307 for fuel economy, I'm ducking again
I have one in an 89 wagon with a 200r4 pushing 200,000 miles, blowing smoke everywhere and still getting 24 mpg (highway gears though)
