Silicone will not hurt most cured paint job but it leaves a residue that makes future paint jobs and/or repairs somewhat difficult to accomplish without having to clean thoroughly - otherwise, problems such as fisheye can be expected.

Some paint shops will not allow any silicone products in them, because of the possible contamination of the shop.

There are non oil-based, non-silicone based lubricants, so why not use them - water-based products mentioned above or products like K-Y Jelly?
