I talked with a pretty experienced transmission guy about using a 700r4 behind a 454 and he talked me out of it. You might get away with it for quite a while, but you're talking about a heavy truck and a big torquey motor. Apparently some of the parts inside that transmission just aren't designed for that kind of load.
