I don't know anything about this setup, but on a conventional rig, car or truck, the input shaft stabs the torque converter and it isn't 100% necessary to pull the converter from the flexplate to separate the combo. You can pull the tranny and leave the converter in place. This might be different for this big truck, or something else could be binding.
