Hi there,
I swapped a 283 in place of a 235 in my '62 Belair. It was very easy & I'm pleased with results. Your truck will be a little different. I'm sure others will chime in with things I missed, but I'll give you the basics.
1. Need to make/buy crossmember for motormounts.
2. Need correct bellhousing for smallblock. They are cheap & easy to find.
3. Clutch pivot from block to frame should have removable extension? My '62 Belair had this.
4. Check radiator clearance. Probably need a better rad anyway.
5. Is your truck still 6volt? Your V8 will need 12V.
6. New exhaust.
7. Modify throttle linkage.

Good luck on the swap.
