It's not to bad,I'v had mine out a few times, almost need to stand on your head to get at it though.Just one thing,don't brake the tube for the tempature gauge.
You might not need to replace it though,I'm working on the same thing now,and from what I'v researched there are a lot of things that will keep it from working.Does your gauge go to full with the key on or do nothing?
