OK, we might be going in circles, but maybe we are also learning something.
Look at this article by Bob Adler - he is an expert. He shows the head casting date on the top of the head (under/inside the valve cover) as shown in the link I gave above.
It would be nice to see photos of 40s, 50s, and 60s head and block date codes.
