A lot of good advice here.True if you can find a good used unit at a reasonable price that would be darn good. I have found that a lot of the used erquip. is just about ready for the bone yard. If you can find a good used unit go for it. On the other hand when looking for a new one look for a good brand name,and the highest CFM you can afford. I purchased an Ingersol Rand two years ago and it has performed really well,I just hope it keeps it up.Course even a good name piece of eqip.can take a dump at any given time.When I bought my house there was an old Champion air compressor in the garage.It dates back to 1956,and it still works OK. But it does take a long time to pump up from zero PSI to 140PSI,then it leaks off a little bit.And yeah you guessed it there are no parts available for it,way too old, so I bought the new IR unit.If there were parts available I would rebuild the old Champion.
