crenwelge 'Bolter C Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,962 Fredericksburg, Texas	I am familiar with red oak. It will crack, no matter what you do to it, but don't let the cracks worry you, it is tough , not prone to rotting and will last a long time.
