I agree, throwing down a coat of Aircraft Stripper will get you a good head start. That's what I did with my hood but still finished up with my Wagner.
You aren't the first person to snicker at that little tool but I like it. It's light, you can hold it a couple different ways and it gnaws through paint and bondo like a termite through balsa wood. It uses the same 3M disk you can buy for use in a drill motor... and those work good too until you get into real tight spots.
